Note :

Leonard Gaetz was born in Nova Scotia in 1841 and died in Red Deer in 1907. Rev. Gaetz, an ordained Methodist minister, who served his church until 1883, due to ill health left the ministry and moved to the Red Deer Valley. In 1890 he gave a half interest in his land to the railway company for the townsite of Red Deer. His extended family became a dominant force in the business and political life of the Red Deer area and beyond; for example, Gaetzes were mayors of Leduc and Red Deer. The Rev. Gaetz ran in Red Deer in the 1905 Provincial election as a Conservative, but lost against his Liberal opponent (479 vs. 524 votes).
